The emergency caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and the ensuing economic crisis may significantly affect the evolution of money laundering, corruption and organised crime infiltration risks faced by companies and financial institutions. These new risk scenarios, together with the need to revive the economy, call for a review of risk assessment systems.

On the one hand, the use of intelligent forecasting tools and new anomaly indicators appears increasingly indispensable; on the other hand, a thorough examination of the adequacy and effectiveness of the counterparty’s safeguards (e.g. anti-mafia documentation, whitelist) is required.

On May 15, 2020 we presented Crime&tech and Transcrime research on the topic during the webinar “Money Laundering and Organised Crime Infiltration: starting again with new risk indicators” promoted by ANRA with the collaboration of Bureau van Dijk.
